Joann Zeise, curator of history at the South Carolina State Museum, talked about the history and impact of Columbia Mills. The former Columbia Mills building now houses the museum. The mill, which manufactured cotton duck cloth, opened in 1894, and was the world’s first totally electric textile mill and the first major industrial installation for the General Electric Corporation.
