President Obama urged Congress to pass legislation that would, among other measures, strengthen background check laws for firearms purchases. He warned that interest groups opposed to gun violence reduction legislation were trying to delay the process, hoping that attention to the issue would wane as the the December 2012 Connecticut elementary school shooting faded from the public’s mind.

President Obama made these remarks at a White House event attended by mothers of gun violence victims. close
