Jay Carney briefed reporters and answered questions on a number of issues. Questions included the status of “fiscal cliff” negotiations after the meeting between President Obama and Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) earlier in the morning and gun control proposals after the shooting Friday, December 14, 2013, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
“Fiscal cliff” referred to impending tax increases and budget cuts at the end of 2012 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement.
