Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), chair of the Senate Budget Committee, talked about the “fiscal cliff,” the impending tax increases and budget cuts at the end of 2012 if Congress failed to reach a new budget agreement. He listed a number of options he believed could be part of a deficit reduction package, guessing that the final bill would contain about $5 trillion in savings, and saying it was conceivable that negotiations would break down, sending the country over the “fiscal cliff.” He was interviewed by John Bussey.

“A Retiring Senate Budget Chair Peers Over the Fiscal Cliff” was a program of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council’s fifth annual meeting. close
