Following song and prayer, Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) made opening remarks at the inaugural Faith Leaders Summit on Voting Rights. Representative Cleaver, who is also a minister, talked about poverty, drawing parallels between the lives of the poor and the life of Jesus. He also talked briefly about recent new state voter laws. During his remarks the audience often responded vocally in appreciation.
