Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, the two Washington Post reporters who broke the Watergate story, were among the featured speakers in a panel discussion on investigative journalism and the digital age. Mr. Bernstein and Mr. Woodward recounted what happened and how they uncovered the facts in the scandal. Mr. Bernstein in his remarks called the story an assault on the U.S. democracy that simultaneously showed that the U.S. system of governance worked. Both agree that reporters should go after the power centers and hold them accountable, citing the Penn State sex abuse case as an example.
