Robert Kagan discussed his book, The World America Made, in which he asserts that the contemporary international world order was created almost entirely by American power and influence after World War II. He cautions that although the country is not in decline. the U.S. could take actions that might lead it to decline. He cites widespread democracy, the generally favorable economic climate, and the absence of war among great powers as examples of that strength. He talked about his 13 years at the Carnegie Endowment and his change to the Brookings Institution in 2010.
Robert Kagan is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He holds a Ph.D. in American history from the American University in Washington, D.C. He writes a monthly column for the Washington Post, and is a contributing editor for the Weekly Standard and the New Republic.
