“Nixon in China: The Week That Changed the World” was an event to mark the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s February 1972 trip to China. Mr. Schell moderated a panel discussion that focused on the politics of the trip and on the change in U.S.-China relations from the 1960s to the early '70s. The participants were former Ambassador Nicholas Platt, who traveled to China with President Nixon; former New York Times foreign correspondent Max Frankel, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for his coverage of the trip; and former CNN senior Asia correspondent and Bejing bureau chief Mike Chinoy, who screened the premier of the episode “The Week That Changed the World” of his documentary film series Assignment: China prior to the panel discussion. The panelists also responded to questions from members of the audience.
