Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), submitted her letter of resignation to Speaker Boehner. On January 8, 2011, Representative Giffords was shot in the head during a public meeting with constituents at a Tucson supermarket parking lot. Members paid tribute to her service and career, and Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz read her resignation letter.
The House voted on Representative’s final bill, H.R. 3801, that would impose tougher penalties on smugglers who use ultralight aircraft to illegally bring drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border.
