Dennis Pogue, author of Founding Spirits: George Washington and the Beginnings of the American Whiskey Industry, Steve Boshare, and consultant David Pickerell gave a tour as an apple brandy was being made. They talked about the archeological reconstruction process, distillery operations, and the role of the distillery in George Washington’s life. He was the only Founding Father to commercially operate a whiskey distillery and, one of the largest of its time, it was one of the most successful economic components of Mount Vernon.
