Karen Utz used a PowerPoint presentation as she talked about artistic representations of the uneven economic and social impact of the Great Depression and New Deal programs on the people of Birmingham, Alabama.

“Industrial Voices--Reflections on the Birmingham Scene During the Great Depression” was a Preview Brown Bag Lunch Talk held in Birmingham Public Library’s Arrington Auditorium on the Birmingham Historical Society exhibit “The Birmingham Scene: Seldom-Seen Artwork from the 1930s and 1940s,” that opened November 6, 2011, in the Birmingham Public Library’s Library Gallery.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 31-November 4 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Bright House Networks local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
