University of Washington Professor Quintard Taylor talked about the intersection of 20th-century African-American history and the development of cities on the West Coast. He showed slides as he examined how community organizing, de-industrialization, housing, and employment have shaped the “Urban West” and how they reflect changes in American culture.

“Facing the Urban Frontier: African American History in the Reshaping of the 20th Century American West” was the Presidential Luncheon of the Semi-Centennial Conference of the Western History Association. It was held at the Oakland Marriott City Center. close
