Witnesses testified on China’s foreign and military aid and political activity in Africa. They talked about the extent to which the U.S. was ceding economic and diplomatic opportunities to China in Africa, and whether China’s expanded reach was a wake-up call for enhanced U.S. investment and trade. They also talked about areas of common interest that provide a potential basis for bilateral or multilateral cooperation.
