Stephane Hessel, a 93-year old former United Nations diplomat, discussed his call for popular outrage against the world's governments and economic markets, which the author contends impinge upon freedoms. An English translation had just been published of his October 2010 French essay that was inspired by a 2008 speech he gave to commemorate the French Resistance. Ambassador Hessel is a former French resistance fighter and concentration camp survivor. Stephane Hessel was interviewed by Nikil Saval and also responded to questions from members of the audience. Ms. Peer moderated this event of the Maison Francaise at Columbia University in New York City, which was held in the Business School's Uris Hall.
