James Ferguson talked about the use of busing to integrate schools in Charlotte, North Carolina. His firm argued for the litigants in the 1969 Swann case that desegregated Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools using busing. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld that decision in 1971, clearing the way for busing nationwide. In 1999 he argued unsuccessfully against an end to that court-ordered desegregation. Mr. Ferguson was interviewed at the Levine Museum of the New South at the busing exhibit.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) on their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” were in Charlotte, N.C., on August 29-September 2, 2011, to feature the history and literary life of the city that would host the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Working with the Time Warner local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The segments air on American History TV and on BookTV.
