Since January 2005, there has been an effort underway at George Washington’s Mount Vernon to restore his garden to its 1799 appearance. Special collections librarian Michele Lee showed several documents in Mount Vernon’s collection that provide insight into Washington’s gardening practices. Then, in the Upper Garden, archeologist Esther White and horticulturist Dean Norton gave a tour of the work they directed in the garden’s reinterpretation. close
