General Petraeus and Michelle Flournoy testified on U.S. military and diplomatic operations in Afghanistan. In their remarks they said that gains made by the Taliban in recent years have been halted or reversed, but cautioned that the situation in the country remained fragile. The general also reiterated his support for the Obama administration’s July 2011 date for beginning the withdrawal of U.S. troops, but said he has not decided on the level of reductions yet.
