Gregory Jaczko testified on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s 2012 budget request. Much of the hearing focused on several nuclear accidents at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power station in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and tsunami. In his remarks he said Japanese nuclear plant emergency workers could face lethal doses of radiation. He noted that the U.S. was also recommending that any American within a 50 mile radius of the plant in Japan evacuate the area.
