Energy Secretary Steven Chu testified on his department’s 2012 budget request. Much of the hearing focused on several nuclear accidents at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power station in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and tsunami. Additionally, he talked about the U.S. nuclear power industry, saying the Obama administration remained committed to building new nuclear plants, and would review nuclear safety standards in the wake of the accidents in Japan.
