Stephen Goldsmith spoke about his career and experiences in public service. In the 1990s, he was mayor of Indianapolis, the country’s 12th largest city. After losing a bid for governor in 1996, he went on to serve as chief domestic policy advisor to George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. After the election, he was President Bush’s adviser for faith-based and not-for-profit programs. He currently served as New York’s deputy mayor.

In this interview, Mr. Goldsmith talked about his job as deputy mayor for operations and compared it to being mayor of Indianapolis. He discussed his relationship with the unions in New York City. He also talked about the criticism he took from the New York media after the city’s snowstorm in December 2010. Mr. Goldsmith explained several programs he has instituted in New York to lower costs. close
