Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet spoke about a U.N. program to promote gender equality around the world. The UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, to be known as UN Women, was launched earlier that year to coordinate work on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Among the topics she addressed were violence and discrimination against women, enforcing human rights laws, and efforts to curb sexual violence. After her remarks she talked with Professor Jenkins and responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Women, War and Peace” was a March 3, 2011, Kossoff Lecture held at Roosevelt House. close
