R. Gerald Turner spoke about university operations and his experiences with higher education. He has been president of Southern Methodist University (SMU) since 1995. Southern Methodist University is a private university with about 11,000 students and an endowment of approximately $1.1 billion. It is located in Dallas and the George W. Bush Presidential Library, expected to open in 2013, is being built there.

From 1984 to 1995, R. Gerald Turner was chancellor of the University of Mississippi. He was vice president at the University of Oklahoma from 1979 to 1984 and taught at Pepperdine University from 1975 to 1979. close
