Isabel Wilkerson talked about her book The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration (Random House, 2010). It is the story of African-American migration from the South to the North and West during the period of 1915 to 1970. She tells the story through the eyes of three of the almost six million people who experienced the migration.
Isabel Wilkerson worked for The New York Times from 1984 to 1995. As Chicago bureau chief for that paper, she won a Pulitzer Prize for feature writing. She has taught at Emory, Princeton, and Harvard universities and is currently the director of the Narrative Nonfiction Program at Boston University College of Communication.
