Mike Williams, Transocean chief electronics technician and survivor of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion, testified before investigators to recount his memory of the event. Providing information regarding the gas detection system and general alarm system, in this testimony he said that key alarms were turned off prior to the explosion that led to the oil spill.


This was the fifth day of the third session of hearings of the Deepwater Horizon joint investigation held by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement (BOEM) into the circumstances surrounding the explosion, fire, pollution and sinking of the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit Deepwater Horizon, with multiple loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010. David Dykes and Captain Hung Nguyen co-chaired.
