George T. “Joe” Sakato served with the famed Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat team during World War II. His gallantry on a French battlefield earned him the Distinguished Service Cross, which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor. Mr. Sakato recalled his war experiences" including his actions on October 29, 1944, on hill 617 which led to recognition of his “extraordinary heroism.”
