Mr. Johnson, a former adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2006. His many books include Modern Times; Intellectuals; A History of the American People; and his memoir, The Vanished Landscape: A 1930s Childhood in the Potteries. His latest book is a biography of Brititsh Prime Minister Winston Churchill titled Churchill.
