Lynne Joiner recounts the life of U.S. foreign service officer to China, John S. Service, who at the end of World War II forecast the success of Mao Zedong's revolution.  The author recalls that Mr. Service's reports were ignored by the United States and he would later be questioned by Senator Joseph McCarthy for communist connections.  John S. Service was fired from his position but after lengthy court deliberations was reinstated by the U.S. Supreme Court.  Ms. Joiner reports that throughout the remainder of his career, Mr. Service was a continued target for American anti-communists, the FBI, and China's secret police.  Lynne Joiner discusses her book at the Arlington Public Library in Arlington, Virginia.
