The mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were placed under federal conservatorship in September 2008 in the wake of the housing downtown. The Center for Responsive Law - founded by consumer advocate Ralph Nader - hosted a wide-ranging discussion on how these entities should operate in the future. Speakers included an advocate for privatizing the companies, as well as a supporter of a complete government takeover. close
