Harriet Reisen talked about her book Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women (Henry Holt and Co.; October 27, 2009). In her book she recounts the life of Louisa May Alcott, writer, Civil War nurse, abolitionist, and feminist. Her two-hundred written works included novels, plays, and pieces of reportage. The author of Little Women, she out-sold the books Herman Melville and Ralph Waldo Emerson. Harriet Reisen is a former screenwriting fellow at the American Film Institute. She has written several documentary scripts, including a PBS documentary of Louisa May Alcott for “American Masters.” Video clips of the documentary were shown. Ms. Reisen talked about how she became interested in Ms. Alcott and the process of making the documentary and book as well as the life of Louisa May Alcott. She also responded to questions from members of the audience. close
