Dongping Han talked about his book The Unknown Cultural Revolution: Life and Change in a Chinese Village (Monthly Review Press; December 1, 2008). In his book Mr. Han argues that China’s cultural revolution (1966-1976) had many successes such as improvements in the living conditions, infrastructure, education, and agricultural practices of China’s rural population. He also discussed the influence of Mao’s writings on those who participated. Mr. Han talked about his life story, coming from a rural background in China. Dongping Han now teaches history and political science at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. He responded to questions from members of the audience. Professor Bai came from the audience to add her comments.
