Thomas Reed talked about the book he co-wrote, The Nuclear Express: A Political History of the Bomb and Its Proliferation (Zenith Press; January 2, 2009). In his book he talks about the creation and proliferation of the nuclear bomb. Topics include the possibility of a terrorist obtaining a nuclear bomb that could be delivered to a major U.S. city via a shipping container or in some other unconventional way. Mr. Reed talked about the history of nuclear proliferation and possibilities for the future. He responded to questions from members of the audience.

Thomas Reed was secretary of the Air Force under Presidents Ford and Carter, and was special assistant on national security policy for President Reagan. He was also a nuclear weapons designer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Mr. Reed is the author of At the Abyss: An Insider's History of the Cold War.

Mr. Reed spoke on October 16, 2009, 12:30 p.m., CT at the SIIA International Affairs Seminar of the George Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
