David Cole talked about the book he edited, The Torture Memos: Rationalizing the Unthinkable (New Press; September 1, 2009). In his book he collects the memos released by the Justice Department on April 16, 2009, relating to the CIA’s use of interrogation techniques in the war on terrorism. They were originally issued in secret by the Office of Legal Counsel between 2002 and 2005. After his presentation and presentations by each member of a panel of legal experts, they discussed whether Justice Department lawyers, in providing support for the techniques, should be held accountable for advocating torture. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Mitt Regan moderated.
