Nelson Lichtenstein talked about his book The Retail Revolution: How Wal-Mart Created a Brave New World of Business (Metropolitan Books; July 21, 2009). In his book he presents a history of Wal-Mart from its founding by Sam Walton in Arkansas to its current place as a retail chain employing two million people and operating 6,000 stores. Mr. Lichtenstein explores the links between the rise of Wal-Mart and the rise of globalization and what he deems Bible Belt cultural values. Topics included how the retail company controls industry. He responded to questions from members of the audience.
