Richard Botkin talked about his book Ride the Thunder: A Vietnam War Story of Honor and Triumph (WND Books; July 2, 2009). In his book Richard Botkin, who was a United States Marine Corps officer, profiles U.S. and Vietnamese troops who, he argues, were winning the war in Vietnam in the early 1970s before the U.S. Congress decided to pull out of the conflict. Richard Botkin talked about celebrating character, bravery, and sacrifice as he outlined the stories of the men profiled. He also spoke about their wives. Mr. Botkin contrasted the image of the Vietnam War with World War II and the propoganda images of the wars. After his remarks he responded to a few questions, and Colonel Camp (Ret.) also made remarks. Retired Marine Colonel Gerry Turley, one of the people profiled in the book, also attended this luncheon at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia.
