Peter Mancall talked about his book Fatal Journey: The Final Expedition of Henry Hudson (Basic Books, 2009). In his book he recounts the expeditions of explorer Henry Hudson (1565-1611). Mr. Mancall focuses on Hudson's final expedition in search of a Northwest Passage in the Artic in 1610, a voyage that resulted in Hudson's crew committing mutiny and the explorer never being seen again. Professor Mancall showed slides throughout his presentation and then responded to questions from members of the audience.

This lecture was held at the Museum of the City of New York on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. in conjunction with the exhibit "Amsterdam/New Amsterdam: The Worlds of Henry Hudson," part of an observance of the 400th anniversary of the river that bears his name.

Peter Mancall is the author of Deadly Medicine and Hakluyt's Promise. He is a history and anthropology professor as well as the director of the University of Southern California's Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute.
