John Limbert talked about his book Negotiating with Iran: Wrestling the Ghosts of History (United States Institute of Peace Press; September 14, 2009). He talked about past and present attempts by the U.S. to deal with Iran and outlined strategies for U.S. negotiators to use in the future. He responded to questions from members of the audience. John Limbert spent 33 years in the U.S. Foreign Service before joining the Naval Academy. He was held hostage in the American Embassy in Tehran for 14 months. He served as ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Limbert is the author of Iran: At War with History and Shiraz in the Age of Hafez.
