Michael Hardt talked about his book Commonwealth (Belknap Press of Harvard University Press; October 1, 2009). It is the third book of a trilogy Michael Hardt with the books Empire and Multitude: War and Democracy in the Age of Empire that he wrote with Antonio Negri. He presented his thoughts on what he deems an alternative model of political and social organization where the “public” and the “private” are superseded by the “common.” He presented this as part of a solution for a broken economic system. Neil Smith then offered his comments on the book. Then both men responded to questions from members of the audience at the audience at the Abrons Art Center of the Henry Street Settlement in New York City. close
