Marcela Grad talked about her book, Massoud: An Intimate Portrait of the Legendary Afghan Leader (Webster University Press; February 17, 2009). The book focused on the life and impact of Afghan resistance leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, an enemy of both the Soviets and the Taliban. He was assassinated on September 9, 2001, in what is believed to be a preemptive move by Al-Qaeda to limit the response to the September 11th attacks. In the book, Ms. Grad compiles testimony from people who knew and covered Massoud over the years. She also responded to questions from members of the audience.
