Roy Harris, Jr., talked about his book Pulitzer's Gold: Behind the Prize for Public Service Journalism (University of Missouri Press; January 17, 2008). In the book he presents a history of the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service that is awarded annually to a newspaper for achievement in reportage. Mr. Harris researched the stories behind the recipients of the medal from the coverage of the integration of Little Rock schools in 1958 to reports of misconduct by Catholic priests in 2003. Mr. Harris was joined in by discussion by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters Elizabeth Mehren and Sacha Pfeiffer. They focused on the future of community and public service journalism which they deem fundamental to civic life. The panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
