Robert Glennon talked about his book Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis and What to Do About It (Island Press; April 17, 2009). Mr. Glennon used humor and slides as he described the country's serious water supply problem. He presented numerous examples to establish that there is a problem and to illustrate how Americans waste water before examining many proposed options for alleviating the problem. Mr. Glennon then proposed the necessity for market-based solutions that look at water as a commodity and as a human right. He then responded to questions from members of the audience.
Mr. Glennon is a University of Arizona law professor and author of the book Water Follies: Groundwater Pumping and the Fate of America's Fresh Waters (2002). This was a keynote speech at 11:00 a.m. on August 13, 2009, of the CLE International Arizona Water Law Conference, held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa.
