Seth Jones talked about his book In the Graveyard of Empires: America's War in Afghanistan (W. W. Norton & Company; July 6, 2009). He examined the trend of affairs in Afghanistan over several decades and what he thinks has gone wrong with the U.S. war in Afghanistan since 2001. He also provides suggestions for the Obama administration as it expands the U.S. military's presence in the country. He responded to questions from members of the audience. The talk was held on July 23, 2009, by the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C.


Seth Jones is a political scientist at the RAND Corporation and an adjunct professor at Georgetown and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.
