The National Research Council and Institute of Medicine held a symposium to explore the health, policy, and ethical implications of direct-to-consumer genetic testing. Scientists in panel four addressed genetic testing and research. Among the topics they discussed were information access, ownership of genetic information, and genetic information as a private commodity. Panelists responded to questions from members of the audience.
