Representative James Moran held a health care town hall meeting at South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia. Howard Dean, former Democratic National Committee chairman, also delivered remarks. Representative Moran outlined the $1.6 trillion bill that passed in the House Energy and Commerce Committee and expressed his support for a new government public health option. He also sought to explain what he called “myths” about the bill, including claims that the bill would fund death panels encouraging ailing elderly patients to consider assisted suicide.
The meeting was interrupted several times by screaming and catcalls. At one point anti-abortion activist Randall Terry was removed from the meeting after refusing an offer of five minutes of floor time in exchange for his silence.
