Former President Bill Clinton spoke about obesity prevention and health care issues. In his remarks he focused on the costs of obesity to families and communities, but frequently made reference to the on-going efforts to enact health care reform. He said he saw "eerily familiar" political arguments getting in the way of progress on one of the most serious issues facing the nation. He also criticized critics of reform, saying that people with an interest in the status quo were balking at paying for preventative measures for patients without proof that the patient would get sick.
