In his remarks he talked about the organization’s historic commitment to civil rights and remaining barriers to progress in the effort to improve civil rights. He said the “pain of discrimination is still felt in America” by various groups including African-Americans, Latinos, Muslims, and gay and lesbians. He also talked about the role of education, community involvement, and responsible parenting in elevating individuals in society.
