John McCaslin, columnist for the Washington Times, recalls the life of Jimmy Divine, a marijuana trafficker from the Bahamas who successfully imported a great amount of the drug into the United States in the 1970s. Mr. McCaslin reports that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration estimates Americans were smoking over 35,000 pounds of marijuana per day at the beginning of the decade and relays how Jimmy Divine was able to elude the authorities and procure and give away a fortune. Mr. McCaslin talked about how he became a neighbor of Mr. Divine and learned the story of how Mr. Divine almost accidentally became a drug smuggler. The guest interviewer was Keith Stroup, founder of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws).
