The Senate Judiciary Committee held its second day of hearings on the appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court seat vacated by the retirement of Justice David Souter. Judge Sotomayor responded to questions about a number of issues including eminent domain, federal environmental regulation cases, instances in which she might recuse herself, and how judges rule impartially. She also answered several questions from Senator Feingold on the limits of executive power and several recent national security cases reviewed by the Supreme Court.

In the first round of questioning, senators were allotted 30 minutes each. Part 4 continued the questioning beginning with questions from Senator Grassley, ending with questions from Senator Kyl.
