Joseph Stiglitz talked by remote video from New York City about his July Vanity Fair article, “Wall Street’s Toxic Message,” in which he argues that when the current economic crisis is over, the reputation of American-style capitalism will have been significantly diminished, in part because of the gap between what Washington practices and what it preaches. He also argues that disillusioned developing nations may well turn their backs on the free market because of failures in the American economic model. He responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. close
