House managers presented articles of impeachment of Judge Samuel B. Kent. Senator McConnell administered the oath to the acting president pro tempore, who in turn administered the oath to all senators according to Article I, section 3, clause 6 of the Constitution and the Senate's impeachment rules. The Senate then passed resolutions issuing a summons to Judge Kent for the impeachment trial and established a special bipartisan committee to compile evidence for trial.
