Rich Rayburn read “Civil Rights Without Apology,” a paper by Rudolph Byrd, founder of the James Weldon Johnson Institute at Emory University, who was unable to attend. Hank Klibanoff is the co-author of The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle, and the Awakening of a Nation, published by Vantage, which was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for history. The Cold Case Truth and Justice Project investigates unsolved racial murders that took place during the 60-year civil rights era in the South. Joseph Crespino is the author of In Search of Another Country: Mississippi and the Conservative Counterrevolution (Princeton University Press, 2007). David Carter is the author of The Music Has Gone Out of the Movement: Civil Rights and the Johnson Administration, 1965-1968 (University of North Carolina Press, 2009).
